About Sun Peaks Stables
You’ll find Sun Peaks Stables just a short distance west of many Sun Peaks Resort rentals and the Village, on Industrial Way, just off Sun Peaks Road.
Since 2013, Sun Peaks Stables have combined their sleigh and trail ride knowledge with their love of horses to bring this exciting venture to this popular ski area.
The stable is filled with Percheron Draft, Canadian Horse, and Gypsy Cob horses — some are even rescued animals that have been rehabilitated and now spend their time enjoying the beautiful landscape with vacationers.
Trail Rides
Small group trail rides are available that take you either through the Village or to the summit of Mt. Morrissey, which offers expansive views of the Village and Golf Course that you may not be able to enjoy in quite the same way anywhere else. Both novice and experienced riders are welcome.
These rides give you a wonderful opportunity to take in not only the sights but unparalleled views of the wildlife and foliage along the ski and walking trails. The Village trail ride is a 2-hour trip (90 minutes of saddle time), while the mountain excursion is four hours, with three of those hours in the saddle.
Carriage and Wagon Rides
No worries if sitting tall in the saddle is not for you: Sun Peaks Stables also offers carriage and wagon rides! Both are leisurely rides through the Village that take place year-round. Choose from the 20-passenger wagon or the more intimate 9-passenger carriage. In winter, the carriage becomes a fun sleigh ride on runners.
Riding & Driving Lessons
Riding, grooming, and other horse care activities are covered in private individual or private group lessons at Sun Peaks Stables. Private lessons run for one hour, while group lessons are 40 minutes. Both take place at the stables’ riding ring.
Ages 5+ are accepted in group lessons.
Visit the Stable and Meet the Horses
If you would simply prefer to come to Sun Peaks Stables and meet the horses, you can do that, too. There’s a 45-minute to one-hour hands-on experience for both young children and adults, where you will have a thrilling opportunity to assist in grooming a horse and learn what goes into caring for these beautiful animals. There are even pony rides for the little ones!
The 2-hour stable visit gives you even more hands-on fun; here, you’ll not only groom a horse but learn how to put on a harness and even walk a horse around the riding arena, an activity known as ground driving.
