Things To Do at Sun Peaks Resort This Holiday Season

As Canada’s second-largest ski area, Sun Peaks Resort is an ideal destination for winter travel. Located in British Columbia, this idyllic destination is perfect for adventurous souls and people who want to take advantage of the snowscapes during the holidays. Between skiing, snowboarding, sledding, guided ice fishing, and playing in the snow, there are plenty of exciting and memorable things to do at Sun Peaks Resort throughout the holiday season.

The winter activities here are abundant, but these are some of the best you can enjoy while staying at one of our Sun Peaks Resort rentals

Artisan Market

For those who love shopping local vendors and finding unique souvenirs and holiday gifts, this is one of the best Sun Peaks winter activities. The Artisan Market allows visitors to browse through a variety of vendors showcasing their handy work. As you wander through Sun Peaks Center, you’ll be able to find special paintings, candles, jewelry, home decor, seafood, desserts, holiday decor, and much more.

Unlike their traditional market at Sun Peaks, the Artisan Market places an emphasis on holiday cheer. You’ll hear holiday music playing as you walk around, people sharing the holiday spirit, and plenty of items that will make the perfect gifts. Sun Peaks Artisan Market is free for the public, so even if you don’t find anything to buy, you’ll still love wandering through the stalls and embracing the holiday spirit.

Holiday Kick-Off

If you plan on visiting Sun Peaks in the winter, attending their Holiday Kick Off needs to be on your list of things to do. Every year, at the beginning of December, Sun Peaks Resort hosts a kick-off to embrace the holiday season. The kick-off is not in a specific location at the resort, but it’s throughout the village. The Holiday Kick-Off features beautiful Christmas lights on the buildings, trees, and anywhere they can place them.

You’ll also be able to listen to holiday music as you stroll through the village. The Holiday Kick-Off also informs attendees of all the other winter activities that they might be interested in. While you’re enjoying the lights and music, you can pop into one of the cafes in the village to enjoy a warm drink or snack.

Activities With Santa

What’s a holiday vacation without seeing Santa? Sun Peaks at Christmas is truly a magical time, and meeting Santa adds to the magic, regardless of your age. Luckily, there are several different activities you can do with Santa while you’re at Sun Peaks Resort for the holiday season. You’ll be able to take photos with Santa and his sleigh while you’re here to remember your holiday.

Besides the traditional photos, you can go sledding or skiing with Santa. While these two events are separate, you can attend both. During the sledding event, you can enjoy hot chocolate and watch his sled glide down the hill. Both events are free to attend, but you’ll need to bring your own sled and have a valid lift ticket if you plan to go skiing with Santa.

Caroling With Nancy Greene

The holiday season and caroling go hand in hand. Get ready to sing your favorite holiday songs with others who share the same holiday spirit. Whether you want to participate in the caroling or enjoy the voices of those who are, you won’t want to miss this winter activity. Nancy Greene is your caroling guide and host for the evening, and you’ll meet her at the Village Day Lodge and Clock Tower.

Once you meet with Nancy Greene and the rest of the carolers, you’ll walk to the clock tower to share the holiday cheer with everyone walking by. If you want to listen but aren’t interested in singing along, you’ll want to be by the clock tower waiting for the carolers to arrive.

Choir Performance

Besides caroling, listening to other live performances is a wonderful way to spend some time while you’re at Sun Peaks Resort. If you’ve never heard handbells played in public before, you need to make sure you make time for this event. The choir performance is from the Bells of Note Handbell Choir, who sing and also play the handbells to accompany their voices.

The performance will include a variety of holiday songs that you know and love, but in a unique way you might not have heard before. Judy Routledge leads a choir of at least 11 people, who all have a special part in the performance. It’s the perfect activity to do in the middle of the afternoon when you need a break from skiing or are looking for something more relaxed to enjoy.

Santa Visits Sun Peaks

Santa Visits Sun Peaks is one of the most enjoyed Sun Peaks Christmas activities. You’re probably wondering why this is different from the above activities with Santa. This is a completely separate event that you can attend. Santa Visits Sun Peaks features Santa riding around town on a fire truck rather than a sleigh.

Sun Peaks Fire Rescue drives Santa through the village on Christmas Eve so you can wave and watch him ride around before beginning his trip around the world. Sun Peaks Resort provides a schedule of where he’ll be and at what time on his route around the village and surrounding areas. Be sure to snap pictures of Santa on his shiny red fire truck to share with friends and family who aren’t there with you.

New Year’s Eve Celebrations

Sun Peaks activities aren’t just for the Christmas holiday. Sun Peaks Resort has a great New Year’s Eve celebration for you to partake in during your trip to Canada. The celebration ends early since it’s kid-friendly, leaving you plenty of time to do something else in addition to this so you can watch the ball drop or ring in the new year elsewhere. Their New Year’s Eve celebration includes a variety of things to do. The party starts with a DJ performing music to help get everyone in the mood to celebrate. There’s also a Kids Glow Stick Parade that even people without kids love seeing.

For those 16 and older, there’s a Torchlight Parade through the village. The New Year’s Eve celebration ends with a beautiful fireworks show against the mountains as a backdrop. The best part is that you can pick and choose which part or attend or attend it all.
